The months following the Poly release had admittedly been pretty quiet– until the sudden announcement of our next two vinyl releases in the last couple weeks.

We’re excited to inform you that these next two vinyl releases are IN PRODUCTION at Pirates Press right now!

Lemon Demon – Spirit Phone

Just like we did for our supporters of the Polygondwanaland LP, we’re going to keep you in the loop every step of the way for this production process!

The official production numbers are in: There will be 1500 total copies of Spirit Phone produced during this run. There’s an even split between the two variants, making for 750 copies of each.

For those curious, if we someday produce another vinyl pressing of this album, these two color patterns won’t be repeated.

CDs and cassettes will be going into production very soon–Just getting the artwork for those formats finalized now. They won’t take nearly as long to produce as the LPs. There will be 1000 CD sets produced and 500 cassettes.

Spirit Phone has been remastered by Mark Kramer for this release. Each format provides bonus tracks and access to an exclusive album commentary by Neil Cicierega.

Eldren – Miss Information Aged

Denver psychedelic rock band Eldren are working with us to bring their new album to vinyl, and these records have actually been in production for a while! We received the test pressings of this just a few weeks ago, and they sound fantastic.

If you’re on this mailing list because you bought a copy of Polygondwanaland, we highly recommend this album for your collection. Eldren have put together a sonically dense and extremely catchy psychedelic rock album about the apocalypse.

We’re producing a total of 500 LPs of this album, with an even 250/250 split between the variants.

Cassettes and CDs for this album are about to go into production, with the cassettes getting a very limited run of 100 copies in a translucent purple shell.

All Eldren pre-orders are expected to ship around 9/21.

In addition to Eldren’s new album, we’re bringing their previous album Welcome to Deathville its own limited cassette run of 100 copies. This is an extremely trippy circus-nightmare concept album. Again, if you bought a King Gizzard record album from us, you might be interested.

The Ballad of Constance and Johnny is the 3rd album from Nashville synth-punk band Regdar and the Fighters. The band’s most ambitious album yet– it’s a rock opera featuring Regdar and the Fighters’ signature storytelling, humor, and unorthodox production style blending guitars and circuit-bent electronic instruments, with percussion programmed using a DDR pad. The cassette version of this album has an alternate ending than the digital release.

Denver psych-rock outfit Eldren return this fall with sophomore LP Miss Information Aged, an impressionistic tour-de-force of proggy neo-romanticism nearly three years in the making. Daring to toe the unraveling line between fact and fiction, between social and media, Eldren confront the past, present, and future with Miss Information Aged officially dropping September 21st via Needlejuice Records.

In the midst of an endless touring schedule in support of their 2015 debut Welcome to Deathville — one that saw them share the stage with notable acts such as Cold War Kids, The Black Angels, Imagine Dragons, Dr. Dog, Dan Deacon, Gomez, Ween, and OK GO — Eldren suffered a severe and unexpected tragedy with the passing of their original bassist, Steve Holloway, at age 25. In spite of the terrible loss, the band persevered through adversity and continued to explore new musical directions. The result was a new body of songs that reflected both personal and musical growth.

Spirit Phone is a collection of 14 deviously catchy pop songs that lightheartedly explore such macabre topics as haunted mansions, confectionery cannibalism, Lovecraftian romance and 1980s economics. Bringing to mind the playfully ghoulish work of new wave acts like Oingo Boingo, the album presents its dark themes with mischievous relish. Anthony Fantano of The Needle Drop awarded it an 8/10 rating and included it in his Best of 2016 list, praising its clever lyrics, high energy, and catchy songwriting.

Lemon Demon is the moniker for original music by web icon Neil Cicierega. As a teen at the dawn of the internet age, he was making a name for himself with innovative, diverse projects when the world was figuring out what to do with the new technology. His prolific work has spawned numerous viral touchstones, including Animutations, Potter Puppet Pals, and the acclaimed mashup albums Mouth Sounds, Mouth Silence, and Mouth Moods.

Among these many projects, Lemon Demon has been Cicierega’s most consistent outlet. From lo-fi beginnings in 2003, the band scored hits with 2006’s “The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny” and 2010’s “BRODYQUEST.” Cicierega spent 8 years crafting Spirit Phone, his seventh full-length album.

Needlejuice is an independent record label specializing in the physical production of alternative music, founded in late 2017 with the successful inaugural release of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s Polygondwanaland. “We’re really excited to be working with Neil,” said co-founder Austin Ash Lemon. “We’ve loved his stuff since we were kids and it’s an honor to be putting Spirit Phone out. Just as a fan, I can’t wait to get this LP.”

Admittedly, we did think it would be sooner than that at first. But as things sometimes go, there was an unforseen production delay. It’s been worked out, and we can report that they’ll be in our hands in just a couple of weeks. The picture above comes directly from the plant!

We’re auctioning two test pressings on eBay this week! Whatever we make from these will go directly towards the next Needlejuice release. We’re not only selling the regular test pressing, but also one for the picture disc! The picture disc test pressings are unique because the play area doesn’t even start until midway down the record, to account for the decagon shape cut area. They’re also 45 RPM.

• International orders are going out steadily. So far about 100 of them have been shipped.

We just got this photo from the pressing plant! The decagon-shaped picture discs are happening right now, as I’m typing this. We think they’re looking quite gorgeous. About 130 of them remain. And while another run of a “regular” Poly variant isn’t out of the question, we definitely won’t be making anymore of this particular collectible variant. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Also, they’re pressed at 45 RPM to preserve audio quality. Since these are being pressed right now, we don’t have very much longer to wait until orders for these start shipping.

For the next few days, we’ll be working around the clock getting all of your orders into your hands. When your order ships, you’ll receive an email from our website notifying you that your order has been completed. Tracking numbers will be available to you. We’ll be updating our Facebook and Twitter feeds with our progress as we package and ship your orders. Also, yes, there’s a good chance we’ll end up with some leftovers of the Crumbling Polycolor and Fourth Colour variants. When we find out exactly how many, we’ll let you know. The people who started an indie record label also make music?? I bet you never guessed such a thing. Now that we’ve come this far in our journey, we’d like to share some of our own art with you. The music is playable directly on the album pages on the Needlejuice website. Jace McLain’s band is Nashville’s Nuclear Bubble Wrap, a psychedelic rock band from Nashville. Their 2014 album Psycho Delicacy is not only trippy, but also just as goofy as it is anxious. Heavily inspired by bands like Ween and The Flaming Lips, the album is a 70 minute collection of diverse sounding psychedelic rock, with a layer of dark humor. Austin Ash’s band is Smashy Claw, an experimental rock band from Denver. In 2016 they released their album Insane is Repeating, complete with a music video for every song. Inspired by They Might Be Giants and Ween, this is a frantic concept album about repetition. From the intense gypsy-rock opener “White Coats” to the sprawling 8-minute circus nightmare “Primeval in Cm”, the album is an eclectic adventure through every genre imaginable. This album hits you with songs that are funny, songs that are sad, and songs that are both funny and sad. Thank you for the support and for sticking with us through this crazy endeavor.
